Improving Each Preparation

Throwback to when @igoralmeidabjj was prepping for @ibjjf Pan-Ams.

Starting with a solid base allows you to make small changes with big results.

Every year @igoralmeidabjj came back leaner and leaner, making his preparation period easier both mentally and physically.

This is what you want to strive for as an athlete. Your offseason is not a time to become unfit and overweight.

Igor Almeida Black Belt

Igor Almeida Black Belt

Massive congratulations to Igor Almeida on receiving his black belt from Professor Bruno Alves earlier this week.

"After over 10 years practicing this sport I’ve earned my black belt last night from the hands of the person who took me to my first bjj class @brunoalves_sjja thank you Bruno for being such a great role model for me thank you to my professor @zeradiola for all the guidance I’m looking forward to been on the mats with you soon. Thank you to all my coaches and training partners also thank you to all my family, my aunt @claudecidamascen for making me believing it was possible, my lovely girlfriend @kimmycogs_sjja whose support is endless and all friends who have always supported me in this journey. I know this isn’t the end but the beginning of a new chapter in my life and I’m ready for this I will do my best to live up to this belt and make those who support me very proud. @ Sydney Jiu Jitsu Academy"

It is a great moment for these two boys to be able to share.

We met Igor when he first arrived in Australia a few years ago. He couldn't even speak English yet but was here to chase his dream. He has had a lot of success along the way but he has also had a lot of setbacks with some major injuries. That is what makes this all so great. Overcoming those things and still achieving what he set out to do.

As Igor says in his post, this isn't the end but the beginning of a new chapter in his life. I know Igor still has some big goals he wants to achieve and I believe he will.

I am so happy for Igor and it has been a pleasure seeing him progress and mature over the years.

I'm proud to be able to call him a friend. He is a great human and deserves the rewards for his hard work and dedication.

Australian National Jiu-Jitsu Champion

Australian National Jiu-Jitsu Champion

Congratulations to Igor Almeida for becoming the Australian National Champion yesterday in Melbourne. Igor was backing up from his third place finish last week in the UAEJJF Tokyo Grand Slam event. He was carrying some niggling injuries and a bit of flu, so to get the win really just showed his class.

Congratulations also goes Kim on winning Bronze after 10 months away from competition. Kim has had a long time off the mats and unfortunately hurt her ankle leading into the nationals but she was still able to put in a strong performance.

Great to see these two just get it done and not make any excuses about not being 100%. They understand a lot of people carry injuries into comps so they never use this as a reason as to why they can't perform on the day. If you compete, you are judged equal to everyone else, no matter your circumstances.
