Take Curcumin to Improve Heart Health

Take Curcumin to Improve Heart Health

Curcumin has many benefits and is a supplement I take regularly. It has anti-inflammatory properties (which most people know it for), it is an antioxidant, and has antibacterial properties to name a few.  I particularly like to take a large dose for a few days immediately after an injury as I have found this to work very well in reducing inflammation and getting back to full function a lot quicker. When combined with fish oil and some other supplements it works very well.

Curcumin is a great all rounder as it can help with so many conditions. It has now been demonstrated that curcuminoid supplementation can reduce lipoprotein(a) and increase HDL-C, which may reduce the risk of a cardiovascular event in people with type 2 diabetes who have abnormal amounts of fats in the blood (cholesterol, triglycerides etc.)

"There are only a few natural products that have demonstrated such a wide range of protective properties as curcumin. Turmeric has three main bioactive components, namely curcumin, desmethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin. These curcuminoids have many biological effects including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antitumor, antibacterial, and antiviral properties.

According to a new study published last month in Complementary Therapies in Medicine, another application can be added to this list: addressing dyslipidemia in patients with type II diabetes. Researchers demonstrated that curcuminoid supplementation can reduce lipoprotein(a) and increase HDL-C, which may reduce the risk of a cardiovascular event in these patients."

Michael Jurgelewicz, DC, DACBN, DCBCN, CNS wrote about this in more depth and shared the study source so if you want more information you can read it here.
