The Garces Gals - Tamara Garces Abu Dhabi World Pro

The Garces Gals - Tamara Garces Abu Dhabi World Pro

April 27, 2017

What a dedicated and disciplined athlete; her drive, determination and focus already makes her a champion.
Tamara Garces is the other half of the Garces Gals and we are so thankful to be able to work with her and her family.

This was by far the biggest weight cut she had undertaken in such a short amount of time, dropping over 10kg to be at her required weight. She altered her lifestyle to fit her goal, something that almost every adult is unwilling to do, yet at such a young age, she was prepared and willing to make sacrifices to get to her goal. She reined in her diet, increased her training and focused on her goal.

While we didn't get the result we were after, we know that she left nothing to spare on the mats. Coming in fifth overall is still a great result, one we are all proud of. We will learn from this competition and work on every area she feels she needs to.

We are very much looking forward to watching her grow and progress as an athlete, we don't know what the future will hold but we know it will be great.

Gold At Sydney International Open

Gold At Sydney International Open Jiu-Jitsu Competition

Massive congratulations to Aaron Smith for his efforts in winning gold yesterday at the Sydney International Open.

Aaron's preparation was a very dedicated one. He sits in between weight classes and made a decision to take the lighter class. The good thing about it was that he committed to it and didn't second guess his choice, he had a goal and he focused on it the entire preparation. He put in a lot of work both preparing meals and fitting in extra sessions when he needed to cut the weight and he got the rewards.

For me, I am very pleased that he was able to build strength even whilst dropping 4kg of body weight over the past month. At best people want to maintain their strength levels so to actually increase during this time period was a plus. We didn't have to deplete and definitely didn't want to, to make weight, as weigh in is on the day for this competition and we didn't want Aaron feeling tired or weak leading in.

It is a pleasure working with such a dedicated athlete and I am so happy for him getting his win. He is a very humble bloke and I know how much he put into it.

Congratulations mate. Keep working hard and we'll keep on improving.
